He was born on May 16, 1969, in San Francisco, as Tucker McNear Carlson.

His mother, Lisa McNear (née Lombardi), left the family when he was six. She was described as being “more like a hippie, arty kind of person.” She passed away in 2011 in Cazac, Haute-Garonne, France.
