His father, Bill Perkins, was a football player and politician who served two terms in the New Jersey General Assembly. Bill Perkins graduated from Seton Hall Law School in 1968 and opened his law office in 1970. He passed away on February 5, 2016.

From 2002 to June 2012, Bill managed a large portfolio of energy commodities at Centaurus Energy.
