Bill Perkins is an American high-stakes tournament poker player, film producer, and hedge fund manager who manages the Houston-based energy hedge fund, Skylar Capital.

Biography

He was born on February 2, 1969, in Houston, Texas, USA, as William O. Perkins III.

His father, Bill Perkins, was a football player and politician who served two terms in the New Jersey General Assembly. Bill Perkins graduated from Seton Hall Law School in 1968 and opened his law office in 1970. Perkins passed away on February 5, 2016.

Bill lived his early childhood in Jersey City.

In 1986, he graduated from St. Peter’s Preparatory School.

Perkins graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in electrical engineering. ”I went to school for electrical engineering, but I knew I didn’t want to do that for a living,” Bill revealed in 2020.

From 1995 to 1997, Perkins worked as Options/Structured Products Manager for El Paso, a provider of energy products that was bought by Kinder Morgan in 2012.

In 1997, Bill founded Small Ventures USA, L.P. The company provides consulting services and venture capital to a broad spectrum of investments. 

From 1997 to 2002, Perkins served as Director of Energy Trading for Statoil (now known as Equinor ASA), a Norwegian state-owned multinational energy company headquartered in Stavanger. 

From 2001 to 2002, he worked as an Energy Trader for AIG.

From 2002 to June 2012, Bill managed a large portfolio of energy commodities at Centaurus Energy.

In September 2008, Bill turned a $1.25 million profit trading Goldman Sachs Group Inc stock.

In 2009, Perkins debuted as a film producer with the movie After.Life. The film stars Justin Long, Christina Ricci, and Liam Neeson. It was directed by Agnieszka Wójtowicz-Vosloo.

Also in 2009, Bill had a minor role in the comedy ”The Joneses.”

In 2012, he founded Skylar Energy LP. In the same year, Bill played in ”The Baytown Outlaws” and ”Seal Team Six.”
