She was born on January 19, 1946, in Pittman Center, Tennessee, as Dolly Rebecca Parton.

She was the fourth of 12 children.

Her mom was a singer who taught Parton how to sing.

“My mother had that old-timey voice,” Dolly recalled in an interview about her mother. Parton added: “She used to sing all these songs that were brought over from the Old World.”

At age 10, she started appearing on local television and radio shows.
