Hue went to Dorsey High School.
Jackson earned a degree in physical education from the University of the Pacific.

At age 27, Jackson was an assistant coach for the London Monarchs of NFL Europe.

From 2004 to 2006, Jackson was the Wide receivers coach for the Cincinnati Bengals.
His next gigs were as offensive coordinator for Atlanta Falcons and quarterbacks coach for Baltimore Ravens.
In 2010, Hue Jackson moved to the Oakland Raiders as offensive coordinator.
Oakland Raiders
He was named Oakland Raiders head coach in 2011.
“We expect to be challenging for the playoffs, challenging for our division year in and year out,” Hue said.
In another interview, Jackson revealed – “We shared a vision for the organization and what we want to accomplish.”
This was Jackson’s first head coaching job at any level.
The Oakland Raiders fired him on January 10, 2012.

Reggie McKenzie, the general manager of the Oakland Raiders at that time, explained on his first day as Oakland Raiders general manager that “he wants to bring in his own guys.” Hue also said that “no job is safe right now.”
On February 17, 2012, Hue returned to the Cincinnati Bengals as assisting on special teams as well as an assistant defensive backs coach.
“After leaving the Raiders, it was tough,” Jackson said in an interview with ESPN in 2022. “I think any offensive coach, when you leave being a head coach, you normally think you have a chance to end up as a coordinator or position coach or whatever that is at best, but that wasn’t the case, so I had to go back to Cincinnati, Marvin Lewis — The Brown family kind of threw me a lifeline, gave me a chance to come back to Cincinnati. I worked on defense, coached on defense, coached special teams, and helped with secondary under Mike Zimmer and then worked my way back up.”
Cleveland Browns
In early 2016, Jackson was named head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
“He embodies all the qualities that will provide strong leadership for our football team,” Jimmy Haslam, owner of the Cleveland Browns, said in a press release.
“We’re going to be passionate about what we do,” Hue said.
Jackson was the 16th head coach in the history of the Cleveland Browns.
In 2016, he went just 1-15.

On October 29, 2018, the Cleveland Browns announced that they had fired Hue after a 3-36-1 record.
Gregg Williams was appointed as the interim coach.
“Let’s just be clear — I mean, we didn’t win enough,” Hue explained in early November 2018. “At the end of the day, when you look at it, we didn’t win enough games don’t matter how you cut it, regardless of what they said or how they said it, you got to win enough games. These jobs, there’s 32 of them, and I was fortunate and blessed by Dee and Jimmy to have the opportunity to be one of 32, but at the end of the day, when you look at it, you gotta win enough games, and we didn’t.”
On November 12, 2018, Jackson was appointed as special assistant to the head coach for The Cincinnati Bengals.

In April 2021, Jackson was hired as offensive coordinator for Tennessee State Tigers.
Hue inked a one-year, $150,000 contract. “I want to plant some roots here, and I want this to be a part of my legacy,” he said.
Grambling State Tigers
In December 2021, he was named the head coach of the Grambling State Tigers.
“Hue is the reason for my success not just on the field but off,” Chad Ocho Cinco Johnson said at the time. “I’m excited and happy for him.”
Later, Jackson hired disgraced ex-football coach Art Briles to coach at Grambling.
In February 2022, Jackson suggested he was paid extra for losses as Cleveland Browns head coach. The Browns strongly refuted Jackson’s claims.
In May 2022, an independent review of Jackson’s allegations found “no evidence” to back the claims.
