His father, Tim Kingsbury, is a former Marine and was the head coach of the New Braunfels High School football team, which Kliff played for.

During high school, Kingsbury was also a member of the baseball, basketball, and track teams.

He played as a quarterback for the New Braunfels, throwing for 3,009 yards and 34 touchdowns during his career.

However, an arm injury meant he was unable to play for them, so the team waived him in 2004.

New Orleans Saints

In 2004, he was signed to the New Orleans Saints.

He spent the entire season on the practice squad.

Kingsbury attended the training camp for the Saints, where he completed 10 out of 21 passes, with two interceptions.

Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos signed him to their practice squad in September 2005, but he was only signed for a couple of weeks before being waived.

Kingsbury signed with the New York Jets that same month, making his NFL debut in November 2005.

He was briefly with the Buffalo Bills after this but again remained as part of their practice squad.

In 2007, Kingsbury moved to the Canadian Football League. He played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for the season as the third-string quarterback.

He then transitioned into coaching.

His coaching career has been more successful than his professional playing career.

This season they were also the only offense ranked in the NCAA top 15 for all of the aforementioned categories.

Kingsbury was awarded the 2012 Offensive Coordinator of the Year for his coaching in that season.

On August 30, 2013, Kingsbury made his debut as a head coach with a victory, leading the Texan Techs to a 41-23 victory over SMU Mustangs.

He led the team to a very successful season. He and his players won accolades for their offensive plays.

This granted him a raise in 2014 and a contract extension to 2020.

Arizona Cardinals

He continued to coach the Red Raiders for numerous years before being hired by the Arizona Cardinals on a $5.5 million annual salary in 2019.
