Introduction

Leonard Reid is an American celebrity husband.

He was married to the late actress Natalie Desselle-Reid, famous for her role as Mickey in the 1997 film “B.A.P.S.”

She is known for her roles in multiple other films such as “How to Be a Player,” “Set It Off,” and “Cinderella.”

Natalie Desselle was also known for her role in the television series “Built to Last and For Your Love.”

The Origin Story

Leonard Reid was born in 1967 in Oklahoma, U.S.A.

He was raised alongside his two siblings, Sharron Cox Reid and Jeffery Reid, raised by their mother, Lavon Lewkes Reid, and father, Tommy Reid.

When Reid graduated high school, he pursued a career in performative arts and landed a leading role in the 1985 film “The Boy Who Stole Sophia Manhattan’s Box Lunch.”

While he came across as a young budding actor with noticeable talent, this was the last film he played a part in.

Further to this, he pursued a career behind the camera.

Wife

In 2003, Leonard Reid married his long-term girlfriend, Natalie Desselle-Reid, a well-known and talented American film, T.V., and theater actress.

Shortly after their marriage, Natalie’s career as an actress picked up.

She had already created a name for herself before her marriage to Reid.

Some of her more minor roles in the film scene included a one-time gig on “Family Matters” and a role as an extra in the film “Set It Off,” where she played alongside A-list celebrities, including Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, and Vivica A. Fox.

Following this and in response to the support of Reid, Natalie landed the role of Mickey in the famous 1997 film “B.A.P.S.”

This was a significant accomplishment for her, and Reid was proud of her success. She played the leading role next to her co-star, Halle Berry.

Reid’s wife was not the only one working in the film industry.

In fact, he has been working behind the scenes for decards and has built a successful career thus far, but has managed to maintain his career privacy despite his famous wife.

Life started to pick up for Reid and his wife when she landed a recurring role in the hit T.V. show “Built to Last.” She played Tammy Watkins on eight episodes and gained recognition for her breakthrough performance.

That same year, she was cast in a leading role in the 1998 Walt Disney film “Cinderella.” She played alongside Whitney Houston, Whoopi Goldberg, and Brandy Norwood.

This was around the same time Reid and his wife welcomed this first child together. Needless to say, their marriage and family life was on the up-and-up.

In 1998, Natalie landed her second recurring role in the American T.V. series “For Your Love.” She played Eunetta in eleven episodes that spanned between 1998 to 2000.

Still, while she was in the spotlight building her brand and rubbing shoulders alongside some of Hollywood’s finest talents, Reid maintained his position behind the scenes while being her biggest cheerleader. It appears he was completely content being referred to as the husband of the famous Natalie Desselle-Reid.

In the early 2000s, the couple welcomed two more children, growing their family to 5.

Between 2003 and 2004, Natalie landed many more roles in T.V. shows, including the role of Cathy on the hit T.V. series “Yes, Dear” as Tiffany in the film “Sweet Hideaway” and as Elizabeth in the movie “Gas.”

In 2003, with the support of Reid taking care of the children, she signed another recurring role as Janie Egins in the hit T.V. series “Eve.”

Between 2006 and 2009, Reid and his wife took time off, presumably to spend time with their growing family. While it is unsure what Reid was doing for a career at that point in time, his wife did not have any active acting gigs.

Between 2009 and 2017, his wife was back in the acting game and landed many consecutive roles.

In 2009, she landed a leading role as Tamika in the film “Divas” followed by her role as Doela Man’s Mom in the cartoon film “Freaknik: The Musical.”

Between 2010-2017, a few of the movies and T.V. shows she played in, including – “Madea’s Big Happy Family,” “Let Lorenzo,” “A Mother’s Rage,” “Zoe Gone,” “The D,” “Ya Killin’ Me,” and “Queen Victoria’s Wedding.”

As it appears, life for the Reids was, by all accounts, exceptional and influential. But things took a turn for the worse in 2020 when Natalie was faced with life-shattering news.

She was diagnosed with colon cancer with a fatal prognosis. Unfortunately, the disease took her life on December 7th, 2020, leaving behind Reid and their three children.

Reid has yet to make a public statement following the death of his wife, presumably because he preferred to stay out of the media, as he always did.

As difficult as the life-changing event was, Reid was showered with kind words from many celebrities his late wife either crossed paths with or worked directly with.

Halle Berry posted a tribute on her Instagram account. “I’ll love you forever, my sweet friend,” Berry wrote.

Undoubtedly, this was a challenging time for Reid and his children, so they were given the time and respect from the media.
