Introduction
Merry Christmas Kathryn Raindrop Brown, professionally known as Rain Brown, is an American reality star.
She is known for her role on the hit TV show Alaskan Bush People.
The Origin Story
Brown was born on November 23, 2002, in Hoonah, Alaska, USA, to a middle-class Catholic family.
Her parents are Amora and Billy Brown, and she has six older siblings, Matthew, Bam Bam, Bear, Gabe, Noah, Bird, and Amora. While her hometown is Hoonah, a large part of her childhood was also spent in neighboring Chichagof Island.
Rain began her career as a child reality TV star at age 12 when her family signed a deal with Discovery TV for their own reality show, Alaskan Bush People.
Her parents decided long before she was born that they were tired of living in modern society.
As such, following their marriage, they relocated from their native Texas to Alaska to live off the grid. Their goal was to remove their dependency on modern technology and learn how to live off the land.
Rain’s early childhood was far from ideal, as it comprised her and her family seeking refuge at local shelters across Alaska.
This was before her parents found reasonable yet basic housing that allowed them to live off the land. Since it took longer than expected, Rain and her siblings suffered the consequences.
Despite their hardships, Rain’s father was a goal-oriented person who always worked on projects.
In 2007, he published his first book, One Wave at a Time, a book about a young boy, turn father and husband, fighting to survive in the treacherous backcountry of Alaska. In 2009, he published his second book, Teacher of the Old Code, a fiction fantasy.
While Rain and her family were struck with good luck and fortune in the form of a high-paying reality show, it took years to come to fruition.
It all started with Billy’s books.
They served a far grander purpose than Billy could have ever imagined as they landed in the hands of Discovery TV executives.
After reading the books and reaching out to Billy, they learned the family’s extraordinarily unorthodox way of life and immediately believed this would make for a hit TV show. From here, conversations ensued.
The business relationship started with ongoing meetings to better understand how they could move forward with the show and its premise.
To begin working on the manuscript, the executives needed to build a relationship that allowed them to learn the ins and outs of the family lifestyle.
Over time, they determined that the show’s premise was to document the family as they live off the land while raising a tribe of children, all while teaching their viewers how to be resourceful.
The show was set to be an entertainment/educational hybrid.
Although the parents decided to move forward with the show, Billy had initial skepticism due to security and privacy concerns.
He didn’t believe in the popular notion of documenting his entire life via insanely popular reality TV.
Following contemplation and deliberation, he accepted the contract, and the show was set to begging filming in 2014.
This would mark the beginning of a new life for Rain.
Rain was first introduced to the American public on May 6, 2014, when the series premiered.
To the surprise of her and her family, the show was an instant hit amassing over 5 million viewers per episode.
The fame was something that came easily for Rain and something she embraced.
Although she is a natural introvert, she preferred to be on camera and took the lead whenever she could.
