Eddie Hall, nicknamed – The Beast, is a British former professional strongman who won UK’s Strongest Man every year from 2011 to 2016 and the 2017 World’s Strongest Man.
Hall has also dead-lifted 500 kg in 2017.
He was born on January 15, 1988, in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England, as Edward Stephen Hall.
Eddie was a successful competitive swimmer as a teenager. In 2001, he won gold in the 13yrs 50m, 100m, 400m, and 1500m freestyle at the ASA National Age Group Championships.
”My mum’s a swimming teacher, so I was literally thrown in the pool when I was two years old and left to sink or swim,” Hall told Coach Mag.
In 2012, Hall reached the London Olympic 1500m final.
”I used to be a national champion swimmer, and I found it helped massively with lung capacity, heart function, and more than anything the mobility,” Eddie said.
He was 19 when he started lifting weights.
In 2011, he won the UK’s Strongest Man competition in Belfast.
In March 2015, Eddie broke the world record for lifting the weight of 1,019 lb (462 kg) in the deadlift at the Arnold Classic in Australia.

500 kg Deadlift World Record
In 2016, Hall became the first man to lift half a tonne at the First Direct Arena in Leeds at Europe’s Strongest Man competition.
Eddie immediately collapsed, and blood poured out of his tear ducts, nose, and ears. About 20 minutes after the record deadlift, his heart rate was above 200bpm.
”That nearly killed me,” Eddie later detailed. He added: ”The pressure on my body was surreal. I passed out after. I had nose bleeds. It’s not healthy doing something like that.”
”I had a really bad concussion, memory loss, bleeding out of every hole on the body,” Hall told Barbend. ”It was a really risky, dangerous lift and the health consequences weren’t the best, but it was all worth it.”
World’s Strongest Man
Eddie won the title of the World’s Strongest Man in 2017 with 51 points. The competition was held in Gaborone, Botswana. Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (50 points) came second, while champion Brian Shaw (49 points) came third.

The Heaviest Boxing Match in History
In November 2020, it was reported that Thor and Hall are set to fight in a boxing match in September 2021. The match is known as The Heaviest Boxing Match in History.
”I think I’ve got a much better mental approach than him,” Hall said for Sport Bible. He went on to say: ”I’m going to outwit him mentally – and I’m going to outwit him physically as well.”
”I’m training for this fight like I trained to be the strongest man in the world, no stone unturned, and anyone in my way is getting milled down,” Hall said with another occasion.
”Eddie Hall has been running his mouth now for weeks, and I know he has been given the same contract,” Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson said. ”So Eddie, I just knocked out your record. And now I’m ready to knock you out in the ring.”
