They’ve also been tuning in to watch the outspoken, self-deprecating standup comedian on television for over a decade.

From NBC’s kingmaker Last Comic Standing in 2010, Fortune Feimster has gone on to appear on The Mindy Project, Netflix is a Joke, and The L Word: Generation Q.

She was born on July 1, 1980, in Charlotte, North Carolina, as Emily Fortune Feimster.

The name Fortune is her great-grandmother’s surname.

She is the youngest of Mike and Ginger Feimster’s three kids—her older brothers’ names are Price and Jay.

The Feimsters were based in Belmont, NC, for most of Fortune’s childhood, where she went to Belmont Central Elementary School.

After that, she moved on to Belmont Junior High and South Point High School, where she played softball—her dad taught her everything she knows about the sport—as well as basketball and tennis. Feimster graduated high school in 1998.

A true Southern girl, Fortune went through the tradition of being presented to society when she turned 18.

The young debutante attended the Gastonia Debutante Ball in 1998, and then went on to college.

Enrolled at the female-only Peace College, Feimster majored in communications and continued with basketball and tennis.

As if that wasn’t enough to keep the young go-getter busy, she was also voted student body president.

Fortune was always popular, thanks to her outgoing nature and positivity.

She graduated from Peace College summa cum laude and gave the student commencement speech.

That year, the guest speaker was actress Emily Procter—who connected with Fortune later in her career.

After graduating, Feimster headed overseas and spent a year living in Europe, before heading back to the US and settling in Los Angeles to find work.

They say it’s not what you know, it’s who you know—and this could definitely be true for Fortune, to an extent.

She reconnected with actress Emily Procter once she moved to LA, and was put in touch with Procter’s neighbor.

Conveniently, that neighbor was a journalist, who gave Fortune a job in entertainment journalism.

From there, she connected with someone who pointed her towards The Groundlings Theatre. The theatre was iconic for young up-and-coming comedians, and it was here that Feimster honed her skills, learned to improve, and joined a sketch comedy company.

There was a stint as a panelist and writer for the hit Chelsea Handler night show, Chelsea Lately, and a regular role on The Mindy Project and Kenan.

As her exposure grew, so did her opportunities.

Guest roles on some of the most popular shows on television—like 2 Broke Girls, Glee, and Workaholics—followed, before she took on the regular role as Dougie on Life In Pieces.

With her classic Southern charm and hilarious take on life, love, and sexuality, Feimster was wooing the masses.

She has since appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Conan, and The Standups, created a television pilot produced by comedy great Tina Fey, and been picked up by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin production company.
