Ricky Morton is an American professional wrestler who has held dozens of championships throughout his career.


He was born on September 21, 1956, in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, as Rickey Wendell Morton.

His father, Paul, was a professional wrestling referee.

Morton debuted in 1978, facing “Nightmare” Ken Wayne in his first match.

In 1981, Ricky began wrestling for NWA Tri-State.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express

In the 80s, Ricky began teaming with Robert Gibson under professional wrestling tag team – ”The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express.”

In June 1986, he unsuccessfully challenged Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

In November 1986, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express won the NWA World Tag Team Championship after defeating Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson in a Steel Cage match. In the same year, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express won the PWI Tag Team of the Year award.

In May 1988, Gibson and Morton competed in the Super Power Series.

In July 1992, Ricky feuded with Eddie Gilbert in the United States Wrestling Association.

In 2003, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express appeared in TNA as part of Vince Russo’s Sports Entertainment Xtreme faction.

In January 2014, Ricky defeated Chase Owens to win the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship. 

Morton and Robert Gibson were inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 2014.

The School of Morton

In 2014, he opened a wrestling school in Chuckey, Tennessee.

In 2016, Morton was featured in the documentary ”I Never Quit the Magnum T.A. Story.”

In 2017, Morton and Gibson were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

On October 1, 2019, The Rock N Roll Express won the NWA World Tag Team Championship.

”At 63 years old, my dreams never stop,” Morton said at the time. He went on to say: ”We have wrestled the toughest tag teams on the scene today and have taken many ass whoopings. But it all led to this moment.”

On December 9, 2017, Ricky and Gibson won the Viral Pro Wrestling Tag Team Championships at VPW’s Holiday Havoc.

Bell’s Palsy

In March 2020, Morton revealed on his The School Of Morton podcast that he was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy, a condition that causes a temporary weakness or paralysis of the muscles in the face.

”Last Tuesday, I woke up, getting ready to go to the gym,” Morton said on his podcast. ”I went downstairs and had a cup of coffee. I noticed the coffee [had] run out of my mouth. I ran to the bathroom and [saw] that my face looked disfigured … I went to the hospital, and they told me it was brought on by stress, but I have a touch of Bell’s Palsy.”


Ricky Morton is married to Andrea Morton, an educational director for Icon Shears and NASCAR/NHRA management and marketing director.

Ricky and Andrea have four children.

Morton has three children from his previous marriage.

In October 2005, he was arrested for failing to pay child support. He owed $73k to his first wife for back child support.

On February 15, 2006, Ricky was released from jail. In September 2007, he was rearrested on the same charges. The total amount was estimated to be $63k.

His son, Kerry Morton, started his wrestling career in early 2020.

He currently operates the School of Morton in Chuckey, Tennessee. ”Everybody is equal here, and I preach that to them every day,” Ricky detailed in an interview. ”The parents come to me and tell me that their grades come up in school. It’s the fact that they have more confidence in themselves.”
