Introduction

Stephanie Harlowe is a content creator building a strong following on YouTube—she has amassed 874,000 subscribers.

The engaging and softly-spoken YouTuber has joined the very niche—and ultra-popular—group of influencers who like talking about makeup and beauty products…and gory crimes.

Harlowe began her YouTube career talking about trending beauty products—she’s got a whole series on her channel devoted to The Ordinary skincare lineup.

She does haul videos at TJMAXX, Marshalls, and Ipsy, unboxings from makeup giant Sephora, and takes her viewers through her skincare and lifestyle routines.

And then, on Mondays, she talks about the crimes that shocked the world.

Here’s what we know about Stephanie Harlowe—crime buff, skincare enthusiast, and beauty guru.

The Origin Story

Stephanie Harlowe was born on February 8, 1984.

She has a younger sister named Samantha, who turned 30 in 2021.

Stephanie Harlowe married Adam on September 30, 2012. While Stephanie is very private with her family life and details, she has shared on Instagram that Adam is the “best partner, the best father, and the best human” she has ever known.

It was probably only a matter of time before Stephanie Harlowe delved into the true crime and mystery niche on YouTube.

Initially, she started like most beauty and skincare YouTubers—an attractive woman unboxing and reviewing products for curious men and women across the internet.

The demand was there—her The Ordinary Azelaic Acid review racked up 58,000 views in a short amount of time.

But the market appeared to be saturated—or at the very least, there were enough people in that field that Harlowe couldn’t get the traction she needed.

Then, in 2019, Harlowe decided to share another hobby—this time, it was a little bit darker than what viewers were used to. But it would make her a YouTube celebrity.

Harlowe described the move as “True Crime, Mystery, and a little bit of history thrown in. [This is] for people who are drawn to the darker side of things.”

And darker, it definitely was.

Harlowe showcased some of the biggest, most sensational, most baffling, and downright terrifying crimes committed in the US and internationally.

She talked about Orsolya Gaal—the Queens, NY, mom who was killed and stuffed in a duffel bag by a lover who wrongly believed she’d given him HIV.

She shared her opinion on the mysterious case of Ellen Rae Greenberg. Greenburg was stabbed twenty times in January of 2011, and the case was ruled as a suicide the following month.

The case baffled true crime fans around the world.

Stephanie also shined a light on the dark side of Scientology. The religion made famous by Tom Cruise has come under fire over the decades—most recently when TV star Leah Remini’s hit show, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, premiered.

In an episode of Harlowe’s YouTube show, she talked about Michele Diane Miscavige—also known as Shelly.

Shelly is the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige.

She was reported missing by Remini in 2013, but Los Angeles police closed the case, saying they had located her.

In 2018, the Church of Scientology’s attorney said she is continuing to live a private life.

Shelly Miscavige has not been seen in public in 15 years.

One of Stephanie Harlowe’s most popular videos is also a pretty obvious one—the case of Christopher Watts and the brutal murders of his family. Her video had racked up 1.3 million views, and was followed closely by the Caylee Anthony mystery, Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, and JonBenet Ramsey’s murder.

Harlowe has also shared her thoughts on the Aaron Hernandez case. Hernandez was convicted of the murder of Odin Lloyd, and—upon his death by suicide in prison—an autopsy that revealed the “most severe case of CTE medically seen” in a person so young.

Harlowe may have made a name for herself as a True Crime influencer, but the path has not been without its pitfalls.

The genre is criticized by many, who point to the desensitization of society, the disrespectful commentary by influencers and fans on social media, and the pain caused to the bereaved families of the victims involved.

Many critics also cringe at the blatant self-promotion and desperation for fame that comes hand in hand with touting another person’s pain for self-gain.
