Roethlisberger wasn’t immediately offered a college scholarship, and was invited to the University of Miami’s summer camp.
Despite an impressive showing, Miami head coach David Hoeppner wanted to see how Roethlisberger performed in an actual football game.
The increasingly burly quarterback acquitted himself admirably, throwing six touchdowns.
Roethlisberger went on to give one of the strongest performances in Miami’s history, with a 70% pass completion rate, an average of more than 3000 yards thrown per season, and 20-25 touchdowns thrown per season.

The Giants instead passed on Roethlisberger, and he was instead selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
