Taime Downe is an American musician who gained fame as the lead vocalist for the rock group ”Faster Pussycat.”

Biography

He was born on September 29, 1964, in Seattle, Washington, USA, as Gustave Ronald Molvik.

”I grew up with all types of music – Jackson Browne, Zeppelin, Waylon Jennings,” Taime told AL in July 2019. ”And the Stones, they’re British, but they’re so influenced by American blues.”

Downe was in a high school band called The Bondage Boys in Seattle.

At some point, Taime moved to Los Angeles, where he worked for clothing store Retail Slut in Hollywood. While there, Magnus Walker sold Taime eight pairs of his customized pants for $25 each. Later, Walker established a stall on Venice Beach.

Faster Pussycat

In 1985, Downe formed the band “Faster Pussycat” with bassist Kelly Nickels and guitarists Greg Steele and Brent Muscat.

The band was named after the cult Russ Meyer film Faster, Pussycat, Kill, Kill!

In December 1986, Faster Pussycat signed with Elektra Records.

On July 7, 1987, Faster Pussycat released their self-entitled album. It reached number 97 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Also in 1987, the band appeared in the Rockumentary film, The Decline of Western Civilization part 2 – The Metal Years.

The rock band hit their commercial peak with the 1989 sophomore album “Wake Me Up When It’s Over.” The album became wildly popular with the hit single House of Pain, which reached No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Wake Me Up When It’s Over” sold over 500,000 copies.

In 1992, Faster Pussycat would release the album ”Whipped” via Elektra Records. The track “Mr. Lovedog” was a tribute to singer Andrew Wood who passed away in 1990.

”Whipped” reached #35 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock track chart.

In 1993, Faster Pussycat broke up.

In 1995, Downe sang backing vocals on Skid Row’s cover of the Ramones’ “Psycho Therapy.” 

For a while, Taime was part of the industrial rock supergroup, Pigface.

The Newlydeads

In 1997, he formed the industrial rock band, The Newlydeads. In the same year, the band released an album titled – ”The Newlydeads.” It was followed by ”Re-Bound” in 1998.

In 1998, Downe opened his own club – ”The Pretty Ugly Club.”

In 2001, Faster Pussycat reformed. The band members included:
