Chip Hailstone (real name – Edward V Hailstone) is a popular reality TV star who appears on the TV series ”Life Below Zero.”
Hailstone was born in 1969 in Kalispell, Montana, USA, to Mary Lois Hailstone and Daniel Franklin Hailstone.
At age 19, he moved to Noorvik, a city located on the right bank of the Nazuruk Channel of the Kobuk River.
Noorvik is mainly an Inupiat Eskimo community with a subsistence lifestyle. He said about life in the city:
”What can I say? It’s all about food.”
Chip went on to say:
”The hunting’s about food, the fishing’s about food, the interactions with the folks around here are about food.”
Chip married his wife Agnes Hailstone in 1992. She also appears in the ”Life Below Zero” reality show.
His wife has spent her entire life in Alaska.
The pair has five daughters, named Qutan, Tinmiaq, Caroline, Mary, and Iriqtaq. His wife also has two sons (Jon and Douglas) from a previous marriage. Two of their daughters were good athletes in their schools.
The entire family lives in Noorvik, Alaska.

Chis and Agnes appear in Life Below Zero, a reality show created by BBC Studios for National Geographic. The first seasons of the reality show are available now on Disney+. In 2017, the show was awarded an Emmy Award for Outstanding Picture Editing for an Unstructured Reality Program.
It follows several people as they try to survive in the US state with the lowest population density.
Other main characters in Life Below Zero are:
- Ricko DeWilde – a Native American rights activist who moved into his family’s cabin near Huslia;

In 2011, Chip claimed that a state trooper in Alaska (Christopher Bitz) had physically assaulted his daughter Tinmaiq.
In addition, he tried to obtain a temporary protective order against State Trooper Christopher Bitz.
His attorney said:
”The difference between Hailstone’s statements and Trooper Bitz’s testimony are subjective variations in interpretations of a fast-occurring incident, not truth or lies.”
He also claimed that a neighbor aimed a gun at his family.
Later, Hailstone was convicted of perjury and lying to a police officer. In July 2017, he was sentenced to 15 months in jail. Chip was imprisoned at the Anchorage Correctional Complex. After the imprisonment, Hailstone has to serve three years on probation.
Captain Barry Wilson, C Detachment Commander, stated:
”Mr. Hailstone’s actions significantly undermined the justice system.”
As a result, his family had to hunt without him. In a later episode of Life Below Zero, Agnes said:
”The last 10 months have been pretty long and sad with Chip being gone.”
She went on to say:
”Food didn’t taste good, coffee didn’t taste good. But I got through it.”
Chip started his YouTube channel on June 25, 2017. So far, Hailstone has over 660 subscribers.
