Chris Lane is a North Carolina country music singer/songwriter with three albums under his belt by 2021.
He’s also had multiple #1 hits, including the double-platinum I Don’t Know About You, the platinum Fix, double platinum Take Back Home Girl with Tori Kelly, and the platinum-certified Big, Big Plans.
He’s also made People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive issue in 2019, received multiple award nominations, and appeared on some of the biggest mainstream media shows in the world.
If you’re a fan of country music, Chris Lane might already be on your radar. And if so, here’s what we know about the North Carolina crooner.
The Origin Story
Christopher Eric Lane was born on November 9, 1984, in Kernersville, North Carolina.
He hails from a close-knit family and even has a twin brother named Cory.
The dynamic duo attended Glenn High School in Forsyth County, a high school that produced notable alumni like NFL pro footballers Chris DeGeare, Josh Hawkins, Tory Woodbury, and the NBA’s Josh Howard.
The sports-centric school was well suited to the Lane brothers, with both twins playing football and baseball throughout high school.
After graduating from Glenn, they headed to the University of North Carolina in nearby Charlotte—and they both played baseball some more.
In a twist of fate, Chris was plagued by ACL injuries and surgeries, which put a stop to his dreams of a pro baseball career—but it did give him time to learn to play the guitar.
He and Cory graduated, and Cory was drafted in the 2007 MLB Draft—a lifelong dream for the pair.
But as always, the twins stuck together—they returned home to Kernersville. Chris got a job working with his dad at his landscaping business, Lane & Sons, and tried to figure out what he wanted to do with his life.
Over the next couple of years, Chris poured his charisma and passion into becoming an entertainer.
Other than his brother, Cory, Chris credits his dad’s support as being one of the constants in his life and said in an interview after he hit the big time: “My dad has been through everything with me.”
Lane Sr. never missed a baseball game from Little League through to Chris’s college years, and when that dream was replaced with music—his support didn’t waver even for a minute.
The most important lesson the family patriarch ever taught his son?
Work hard and be the best you can be in what you do.
The advice would serve the future hit singer well in the years to follow.
A Brush With Celebrity (and Fate)
In 2018, Lane met a reality TV star named Lauren Bushnell.
She was the winner of The Bachelor season 20 in 2016, becoming engaged to the season’s bachelor—Indiana software salesman Ben Higgins.
Clearly, the relationship didn’t pan out, and the pair ended their engagement in early 2017.
Lauren Bushnell had gone from a flight attendant to a reality star when she met the country crooner, and the pair hit it off immediately.
On June 16, 2019, Lane proposed to his girlfriend when he got home from a tour and recorded the entire proposal along with the launch of his new single, “Big Big Plans.”
Lauren, who was expecting a song but not a proposal, was thrilled.
The loved up couple got married just four months later in a backyard wedding planned and executed by Chris’s ecstatic mom.
The pair were surrounded by family and friends throughout the laid-back celebration.
A year later, the pair had another celebration on the way—Lauren was pregnant with their first child.
On June 8, 2021, the husband and wife duo welcomed a 9 lb. baby boy to the world, and they named him Dutton Walker Lane.
The name Dutton came from the television series Yellowstone.
While watching all three seasons, they both thought that the Duttons surname would make a great name for a boy.
The middle name came from Chris’s lawnmower.
The make of mower was a Walker, and Lauren liked that name, too. In the end, both names were in the running, and so the couple used them both for their little boy.
They also celebrated his birth with another official music video, this time for the song Ain’t Even Met You Yet.

Another Brush With Celebrity
In 2007, Chris and Cory Lane took a little detour in their paths—straight into American Idol season 7.
The pair auditioned in Charlotte as a rap duo.
Dressed in matching yellow polo shirts, the pair claimed to have the same car and the same friends—and even dated the same girl (at different times).
The girl in question was Ashley, who was also auditioning for the hit show that day.
She had dated Chris before breaking up with him and dating Cory.
The twins then beatbox and rap before getting lightly roasted by Simon Cowell and given some sage advice from Paula Abdul.
They didn’t make it through the first round, understandably.
