He was born on June 20, 1957, in New York City, New York, USA.

Louis grew up in New York City.

DeJoy earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Stetson University. After college, he worked as a certified public accountant in Florida.

Starting in 1983, DeJoy took a small trucking company that at the time had 10 employees. The company was started by his dad. It became New Breed Logistics.

In 2014, DeJoy sold New Breed Logistics for $615 million to XPO Logistics, a transportation and contract logistics company that operates in 30 countries with about 100,000 employees. 

In 2014, New Breed Logistics employed 10,000 people and had annual revenue of $800 million.

Following the acquisition, DeJoy served as CEO of XPO Logistics’ supply chain business in the Americas until December 2015. He continued to serve on XPO’s board of directors until 2018.

In March 2017, he was the recipient of the Medal for Entrepreneurial Leadership from Elon University.

On January 23, 2018, he was inducted into Junior Achievement of the Triad’s Business Leaders Hall of Fame.

In May 2019, Louis was named national finance chairman for local organizing committee CLT Host 2020 RNC.

In May 2020, DeJoy was appointed Postmaster General of the United States by the Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service.

”The Board appreciated Louis’ depth of knowledge on the important issues facing the Postal Service and his desire to work with all of our stakeholders on preserving and protecting this essential institution,” Robert M. Duncan, chair of the Board of Governors, said. 

Louis replaced Megan Brennan, the seventy-fourth Postmaster General of the US, who announced her intent to retire in October 2019.

DeJoy took office on June 15, 2020.

”Postal workers are the heart and soul of this institution, and I will be honored to work alongside them and their unions,” DeJoy said in a statement.

He is the first postmaster in 20 years without prior experience in the US Postal Service.

”As you will soon discover, I am direct and decisive, and I don’t mince words,” DeJoy told Postal Service employees in a video message in June. He added: ”And when I see problems, I work to solve them.”

On August 7, 2020, Louis announced he had reassigned or displaced 23 senior USPS officials. Later that month, he testified before the House Oversight Committee about his sweeping operational and organizational changes at the Postal Service.

”Had Congress and the PRC fulfilled their obligations to the American public concerning the Postal Service, I am certain that much of our $80 billion in cumulative losses since 2007 could have been avoided,” DeJoy said before the U.S. Senate Committee.

In 2021, DeJoy came under fire for his decision to award an exclusive contract to truck maker Oshkosh Corp that could be worth $6 billion to modernize the USPS fleet. ”We are very, very excited about having a full fleet, or to the greatest extent we can, you know, electric fleet,” he said.

DeJoy earned most of his wealth from managing New Breed Logistics, a company that was sold to XPO Logistics for $615 million.

He also served as the CEO of XPO Logistics. According to reports, he holds between $30.1 million and $75.3 million equity stake in XPO.

Louis is a member of the board of trustees at the Fund for American Studies in Washington, D.C., and at Elon University in North Carolina.

DeJoy is also the president of LDJ Global Strategies. The company is one of the investors in Davie Industrial Center, a 3-building industrial complex totaling±1,000,000 SF on ±23.761 acres.
